The Monna Lisa, also known as La Gioconda, painted by Leonardo da Vinci (1503-1519) is one of the most valuable paintings in the world. It belongs to the French Republic after it was acquired by King Francis I of France and it is on permanent display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris, since 1797.
