Sol Lewitt

This week’s Arts challenge involves mid-20th Century minimalist artist Sol Lewitt. He was born in Connecticut, The United States.
One of his best known projects is WALL DRAWING, paintings on walls. It is very curious the way Lewitt did them giving some closed instructions on how the work has to be done, in particular, he offered indications on the height and width, colours to use, type and number of lines, geometric figures, etc. Taking into account these indications, it was the art gallery itself that was in charge of hiring local artists to interpret those indications and create art.

For this activity you are going to be local artists and following these indications you must create a work of art:
Free material: you can use any material you want (waxes, markers, paint ...) and use cardboard, paper… as support.
Size: A4.
Colours: green, yellow blue, pink, purple and black.
Shapes: 4 squares, 3 circles.
Lines: vertical straight lines, diagonal wavy lines.

David Hockney

This week, we are going to work on landscapes with David Hockney. David Hockney is considered one of the most influential British artist in the 20th Century. He is a painter , a photographer, a draftsman, a printmaker and a stage designer who has contributed to the Pop Art movement in the 60's.
In his works, he has experimented with many different techniques; from the most traditional ones, such as watercolor or oil, to more revolutionary ones such as photocollage, computer and i-pad drawing.
One of the subject matters of interest of the artist are the landscapes, and that is what you are going to do in your next art project. Draw and paint a landscape following Hockney's techniques; you can use paint or colours, whatever you prefer.
Watch the video to can learn more about his works.

Visual Poetry

As today we celebrate "Día das Letras Galegas", we are going to work on calligrams. A calligram is a poem, phrase or word arranged as an image related to the text written.

The first calligram was created by Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918), a French poet, playwright,  short story writer, novelist and art critic, who was also the first that used the word Surrealism. Most of his concrete poetry was collected by Mercure de France in Calligrammes (1913-1916) after his death.

Now, it's your turn to be creative with words. Starting from a poetry of your own invention in English, create your calligram.
